Acclaim Sports Re-Signs New York Yankees All-Star Derek Jeter to Exclusive Multi-Year Endorsement Deal
Glen Cove, N.Y., January 19, 2000 - Acclaim Sports, a division of Acclaim Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKLM), a leading interactive entertainment company, today announced that they have re-signed New York Yankees All-Star shortstop Derek Jeter to an exclusive multi-year deal to serve as spokesman for their All-Star Baseball brand. The agreement calls for Jeter to star in a national television campaign while appearing on all packaging, print advertising, and merchandising for the franchise.
"Derek Jeter has established himself as a premier professional athlete through his on-field success and charismatic personality," said Michael Jerchower, director of licensing for Acclaim Sports. "We believe that he exemplifies the quality and excellence of our All-Star Baseball brand." "I am thrilled to continue my relationship with Acclaim Sports, who continue to produce the best baseball game in the video game industry," said Jeter. "I am excited about the opportunity to help promote All-Star Baseball 2001 and future releases." All-Star Baseball 2001 includes key features such as all 30 Major League Baseball teams and over 700 players; the first ever Hall of Fame team with players like Reggie Jackson and Nolan Ryan; a revamped arcade mode for faster gameplay; all-new batting practice mode; and easy batting and pitching options. The game is scheduled to ship at the end of March for Nintendo 64 and Game Boy Color, and will be supported by a multi-million dollar television, print, on-line, and in-store marketing campaign. All-Star Baseball 2001 is the follow-up to All-Star Baseball 2000, the top selling baseball game for the Nintendo 64 system last year. The game was widely recognized by video game and consumer publications as the best baseball game on the Nintendo 64. Acclaim Sports originally signed Jeter last season as the spokesman for All-Star Baseball 2000. He joins a select group of professional athletes serving as Acclaim Sports spokesmen, including Brett Favre, Chris Webber, Jeremy McGrath and Dave Mirra. In just four seasons, Jeter has captured three World Championship rings with the New York Yankees in 1996, 1998, and 1999. He was named American League Rookie of the Year in 1996 and was selected to the All-Star Game in 1998 and 1999. Last year, Jeter ranked first in the American League in hits with 219, second in batting with a .349 average, second in runs with 134, and placed third in voting for American League Most Valuable Player.
