Mega Man X5 Now Available
SUNNYVALE, Calif. - January 31, 2001 - Capcom® Entertainment today announced the release of Mega Man X5 for the PlayStation® game console. A blockbuster franchise for more than a decade, this continuation of the Mega Man X series challenges Mega Man and his trusty ally, Zero to save Earth from total annihilation. The company today also revealed details of their Mega Man television advertising campaign set to begin February 5. The spot, that will run four weeks in the U.S. and six weeks in Canada, will run on programs for a younger audience such as Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network. Mega Man X5 carries an "E" rating by the Entertainment Software Rating Board.
"Mega Man is one of those rare video game characters that spans time and generations," said Todd Thorson, director of marketing, Capcom Entertainment. "Scores of video game players grew up playing Mega Man on their very first video game machine. Now the games appeal to both generations of classic players and new kids. The TV advertising campaign is focused on showcasing the Mega Man brand to the younger demographic. The Mega Man licensed products continue to appeal to our original Mega Man fans as well as attract a whole new generation of players."
In Mega Man X5, the evil Sigma has deviseda terrible plan of destruction by sending a diverted, asteroid space colony on a collision course with Earth. Mega Man X and his robot partner, Zero have limited time to intercept and prevent total annihilation. In Mega Man X5 our heroes battle a myriad of reploids through eight new brilliantly colorful X-Hunter levels. Each level is filled with intricate passages, hidden and hard to reach items and guarded by eight ominously new X-Hunter bosses. Players acquire powerful weapons, vehicles and power-ups supplied in hidden capsules by the good Dr. Light. The game features time-based gameplay where game events and endings depend on how fast a stage is completed and the ability to createnew weapons and weapon enhancements using stolen energy from a defeated boss. Mega Man X5 is a one-player game in which players can choose to play as either Mega Man X or Zero at any stage.
